Family Friendly Card Games
July 24, 2025
If you’ve made your way to this post, you must have gotten one of our special Alpine Collision & Automotive Repair Playing Card decks!
As a family owned & operated business, we love the opportunity to connect with our customers with shared passions – for example card games. Growing up, owners Jim & Dawn always enjoyed teaching their kids card games and sharing a playfully competitive Friday night with Papa Murphey’s pizza and some games. Here are a few of our favorites that we intrigue you & encourage you to play with your loved ones.
Game 1: Blitz or 31
Subtitle
Object of the game: Players draw cards to assemble a hand which totals 31 points in one suit; or if a showdown round is reached to acquire cards of one suit that are higher than that of any other player.
Players: 4-6
Dealing the Cards:
- Each player gives three cards, face down- player may look but do not share with others
- Remaining cards are placed in the middle, with the top card flipped over and placed alongside it as the discard pile
Game Play:
On your turn:
- Choose one card to draw — either from the discard pile or from the deck.
- Then, discard one card from your hand.
- Play continues until a player believes they have the highest-scoring hand. That player will knock on the table to signal this.
- All other players receive one final turn to improve their score
- Once everyone has completed their final turn, all players reveal their hands. The player with the highest score wins.
If at any time during the game a player scores exactly 31 points, they may knock, flip over their cards and immediately win
Scoring: To accumulate points, cards must be in the same suit
- Aces=11 points
- Jacks, Queen, King = 10 points
- All others are face value
- 3 of a kind = 30 points
-
Example Hand Scoring
- 9 of diamonds
- 8 of clubs
- Queen of clubs
- 7 of clubs
Total Score: 25 points
Game #2: Golf
.
Object of the Game: Reduce the value of your hand by swapping them for lesser value cards to obtain the lowest score in this game of strategy and memory.
Players: 2-6
Dealing the cards
- Each player is dealt 4 cards face down from the deck arranged in a 2x2 square
- Remaining cards are placed face down in the middle of the table, the top card turned up and placed alongside to start the discard pile beside it.
- Each player may pick one card to “peak” at the value- then return it to the face down position
Scoring:
- Ace = 1 point
- King = 0 points
- Queen & Jack = 10 points
- All other cards face value
On Your Turn:
1. The player to the left of the dealer goes first, and turns continue clockwise
2. Draw one card from either the draw pile or the discard file
3. You may either swap the drawn card with one of your face-down cards or discard the drawn card without swapping. (Important, keep track of which cards you’ve swapped and their values as your cards stay face down the entire game)
4. The game continues until a player believes they have the lowest total hand value and knocks on the table
5. All remaining players get one final turn to improve their hand
6. Once all turns have been taken, players reveal their cards and tally their scores
7. The player with the lowest score wins
